Barrett and Barrett, two renowned and distinct winemakers working together, finally, is really what this wine is all about. The result is a handcrafted, limited edition Napa Valley wine that reflects our two different, yet complementary, winemaking styles.
WINEGROWING
We hand select small sections of the very best grapes, vine by vine. With 20 years of experience growing Cab at this Calistoga vineyard, we know the most unique and special areas, which have the lowest yields, tiny berries & stressed vines to create the super-selected wine we desire. Though small in size, the berries from these 20-year-old vines are the key to bringing a big presence to this wine in your glass. Our winemaking in the vineyard comes down to our personal selection of each vine and is carried through to impeccable detail in the winemaking.
2013, like the extremely popular 2012, was basically a perfect growing season, and may prove to be even better than the 2012. Slightly smaller crop for 2013 led to even more stressed vines and concentrated wines, which we expect to age incredibly well. Winemakers and critics lauded the vintage highly, and it has been an anticipated release in the years since then. The 2013 Barrett & Barrett Cab is dark and dense – concentrated black fruit character on the nose, cassis syrup and blackberry as well as some bright raspberry. Intense and bold. The warm ripe berry flavors are balanced with strong earthy mineral character as well as notes of kalamata olive, pie spice, and French oak. One of our more structured vintages, the tannins are still somewhat tight and can benefit from time to open in the glass, or some additional time in the cellar.

This 2013 is a huge expression of Cabernet Sauvignon from this vintage, an absolutely gorgeous example of powerful Napa Valley fruit. A deep, dark black ruby in color, it gives layers of rich, perfumed aromas that continue to develop in the glass over time. Deep, intense notes of cassis, mocha, blackberry pie, and toasty sweet French oak. Explosive flavors follow the amazing aromatics. Luscious and dense texture across the palate with moderate, chewy tannins and great length in the finish. It's the best possible combination of power and elegance. Extremely concentrated, voluptuous, and certain to be a great bottle for your cellar for years to come. Don't miss it!

95 points - Even more concentrated [than the 2012 vintage] is the 2013 Cab, showing loads of blackberry fruit, incense, charcoal embers, subtle oak and a nice, earthy, ripe, blackberry and cassis scented nose and flavors. This should drink well for 25-30 years.
